If you con­sider repro­duc­ing the Open­Shoe sys­tem (cas­ing) and are new to 3D pro­to­typ­ing (as we were up to this project) have a look at the one page arti­cles from IEEE spectrum

• 3d printer proliferate

It will prob­a­bly give you some more con­fi­dence in send­ing away the cas­ing for print­ing or installing some soft­ware to mod­ify the cas­ing.
They are also avail­able in pdf in the IEEE Xplorer if you pre­fer print­ing them.
